I finally saw 300. The story about the Spartan 300 holding off the Persians (the most powerful people of the day). I didn't realize everyone was a homosexual in those days. With the exception of the traitor Spartan, nearly all of the men were buff and liked to embrace in their loin cloths. Other than that the movie blew.
Pun intended.

In my Greek and Latin classes in high school (yes, I was a TOTAL geek), we learned that having sexual relations with your fellow soldiers was expected and encouraged as a method of bonding. You will fight to protect your fellow soldiers even more so when they are also your lovers. That and the unavailability of women when soldiers were gone for months or years at a time made homosexual sexual release even more appealing.
I'm going to have to see this movie. I love buff men embracing in loin cloths!

Actually, I knew that. Women were definitely second class in ancient Greece. Boys were taken away from their families and sent to the gymnasium. I doubt even the Spartans would go into battle with only loin cloths. There was such a thing as armor. I think the whole tone of the movie was comic-bookish.

Well, yeah - the movie itself was actually adapted from a comic book (I'm not kidding; I rented the 'full-feature' DVD, which included all the 'how the movie was made' stuff, and it honestly, truly, was adapted from a comic book. . .)
After seeing the History Channel version I have not been tempted to see the hollywood version, though Bunny is quite correct about that little slice of History.
Fortunately, for my tastes, teh History channel version stuck with the hows, whats, and wheres of the battle itself.
Say what you will, but I'm still a fan of Gerard Butler and many 8-pack baring hotties, homoerotic undertones or not. I didn't go in expecting high class accuracy... I DID go in expecting bloody action and hot shirtless guys.
